Vegan White Rice (Roz Abiad Syami)

Ingredients (Serves 3-4)
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 cup Egyptian rice or basmati rice - Approx. 300g
1.5 cups water
Preparing White Rice
Wash the rice in a sieve under cold running water. Then drain.
Meanwhile add the 1.5 cup of water and oil to a pot and allow to boil on high heat.
Note: you can boil the water in a kettle in advance then add it to the pot followed by the oil. This will save
Once the water boils, add the rice and stir. Allow the water to boil again with the rice added.
Add the salt to taste and stir.
Reduce heat and cover the pot. (Do not uncover the pot until the rice is almost cooked)
Leave to simmer for 10 -15 min.
After 10 min. lift the cover, check if the rice is fully cooked. If not ready, recover and leave for a few more
- When the rice is cooked, you will be able to see holes on the surface of the rice when you
uncover the pot and no excess water will be there.
- If you are not sure about the salt, while checking if the rice is fully cooked, check the salt level by
tasting. If the rice needs more salt, you can still add a bit more, stir it in, cover the pot and leave
on very low heat for 1 more minute.
